The Effingham area is once again under a heat advisory in effect through 7pm Wednesday.

Projected temperatures are expected to push the heat index for the area to near 105 today and Tuesday and to 110 on Wednesday.

As a result, all Effingham Unit 40 playgrounds and outdoor athletic venues will be closed for any type usage.  The closure will run daily from 11am through the afternoon and evening until 6:30am the following day and will be in effect from today through Wednesday.

Unit 40 outdoor facilities will only be open on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday during this week from 6:30am to 11am.  Listen to 979XFM and KJ Country 102.3 or watch the website for information about Thursday and the days to follow.

As a result of these outdoor facility closures, JFL football practices are canceled for today, Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.

Also, the Effingham Junior High softball tryouts, which were originally scheduled for tonight and Tuesday evening are being moved and will now be held on Thursday and Friday of this week from 4 to 6pm at the Effingham High School softball diamonds.

One more reminder that fire burn bans remain in effect throughout the listening area.
