The Teutopolis Village Board spent part of Wednesday night's meeting in closed session to discuss ongoing negotiations with the City of Effingham on a long-term water purchase agreement.

The discussion follows a vote by the Effingham City Council Tuesday night against a one-year extension of the existing agreement between the two communities.  Effingham Council members said the existing contract doesn't expire until November and expressed hope that, by then, agreement will be reached on a new long-term contract.

Meanwhile, Teutopolis is moving ahead with a project to construct a water transmission line from the village to Newton in case talks with Effingham come to an end.  Bids are to be opened on construction of the line in April.
